This is a suggested training programme to follow over the school holidays for those children who are hoping to make the school cross country team or would just like to do some extra training ready for the school cross country event. Training really does make a difference! You may be fit, but it is important to practise running for a sustained period to build up endurance. When it comes to the Zone and especially the Canterbury cross country you need to be fit enough to do a near sprint start and then be able to settle to a steadier pace. There is now less than a week between the school cross country and the zones. The top 6 runners in each year 5 and 6 race get selected to represent the school at the North Zone competition.
